Choosing a pediatrician is an important and personal decision and we want you to feel at ease with the care you and your child will receive.

MEASLES OUTBREAK OVER: The Oakland County Health Division has declared the end of the Measles outbreak. Measles remains a common disease in many parts of the world, including areas of Europe, Asia, the Pacific and Africa. If you are planning to travel to an area where Measles is more prevalent, make sure to review your vaccination record.

MEASLES UPDATE - Measles confirmed in Oakland County. If symptoms develop or you believe you have been exposed, please call the office for instructions. Measles is extremely contagious and it is very important that we prevent exposure to other individuals. Exposure locations are listed are regularly being updated on the Oakland County Health Department website.

The virus can live for up to two hours in the air where the infected person was present. Symptoms of
measles usually begin 7-14 days after exposure, but can appear up to 21 days after exposure and may
• High fever (may spike to over 104˚F)
• Cough
• Runny nose
• Red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis)
• Tiny white spots on the inner cheeks, gums, and roof of the mouth (Koplik Spots) 2-3 days after
symptoms begin
• A rash that is red, raised, blotchy; usually starts on face, spreads to trunk, arms, and legs 3-5
days after symptoms begin

First and foremost, there is no reason to panic. One dose of the MMR vaccine is about 93% effective. If your child has received the MMR vaccine, it is very unlikely that he or she will contract Measles. A 2nd dose improves your odds of protection to 97%. With that being said, Measles is a miserable and sometimes serious disease. We have ordered additional cases of the MMR vaccine and plan to do our best to offer the MMR vaccine to everyone who needs it. Our greatest priority is administering the MMR vaccine to infants 6 months and older who have never received the MMR vaccine. The MMR vaccine does work best at 12 months so these children will need to receive an additional MMR vaccine at their 12 month visit. Children 12 months and older who have not received their 2nd MMR vaccine can receive it early, as long as 1 month has passed, and this will not need to be repeated at the 4 year well visit.
