March 30, 2020,

Dear families of CHA patients,

We want to provide you further updates as to actions being taking within our offices to provide you safe and professional care during this current health care situation. Due to the uncertainty and changing facts related to this epidemic, it is natural to feel stress and insecurity. Thankfully, children are reported to have mild illness when infected with COVID-19.  We encourage all parents to stay calm and be reassuring to your children.

CHA is actively working to safely deliver preventative care and vaccines, while at the same time making sure sick patients have access to the care they need. As pediatricians, we realize that we are caring for the most important people in your lives.  We all need to focus on creating the best rather than the easiest or most convenient solutions. Patience will go a long way to easing the stress of the current events. Working together we can significantly lower the risk of contracting COVID-19.  Our priorities include safe and efficient patient care as well as the safety and health of our staff.

Here are some changes being implemented at our offices on a temporary basis until this crisis resolves effective Monday March 30th:

  1. Well patient visits will occur each morning by appointment only. Patients entering our offices for well patient care or non-contagious issues will be entering clean waiting rooms and hallways free of ill patients.  If your child is sick and scheduled for a well visit, we will ask for you to reschedule this appointment.  Some previously scheduled patients will be re-scheduled.  Please do not worry about delays in normal well visits for older children.  Once this emergency has passed, we will expand our hours to accommodate these visits.  Temporarily, we must focus on keeping newborns and young toddlers safe with proper exams and required vaccinations
  2. New Temporary Office Hours:
    - Troy office
    M-W-F from 8am-4pm
    - Novi office T-Th from 8am- 4pm
Saturday hours will occur in Troy for newborn care only.  Many of our staff and MDs have had to temporarily reduce or eliminate working hours due to personal reasons or higher risk categories.
  3. Patients with cancelled routine exams can still have any ongoing concern addressed by contacting our offices.  A telemedicine visit can be conducted and can often be a successful platform for many issues.  Behavioral issues, acne, sleep disorders, constipation are but a few examples that can be addressed.  All ADD med checks will be converted to telemedicine visits until we can expand office visitation.
  4. Walk-in hours are suspended to limit time spent in our waiting rooms.  Sick patients will be evaluated and treated by use of telemedicine.  Our doctors will provide face to face interviews, limited video exams, and provide you expert advice on managing your child’s illness or problems.  Very rarely, if we can be certain that a non-contagious issue exists, a late afternoon office exam may be offered.
  5. Each staff member will be screened for illness on arrival to the office including a temperature measurement.  Any ill staff will be sent home until they are well.

Our changes in office procedure may evolve as needed.  We will continue to change as circumstances warrant and will do our best to communicate with you.  Please visit our website regularly for updates.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this challenging time period.
